Rachel is a senior at Stamford High School with a 3.53 GPA. Her passion for science and technology has motivated her to teach others these critical skills through Robotics, a fun and creative way to learn science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). She has devoted more than 400 hours to Stamford Robotics by leading Junior FIRST Lego League programs and planning Expo events. Rachel coordinates volunteers and coaches elementary school students, engaging them in meaningful and intellectually stimulating activities. She also mentors 6 – 13 year olds in robotics for the YMCA Lead Academy and has served as trainer, mentor and facilitator to almost 200 girls in the Girl Scouts of Connecticut STEM program.
In addition to Rachel’s dedication to robotics, she volunteers for other community activities such as the Ferguson Library Summer Reading Program, the American Cancer Society Carnival for the Cure, and the Stamford Museum and Nature Center’s Lego exhibit. She also visits the elderly at Scofield Manor, and participated in the 2009 Mayoral campaign canvassing for candidates.
“She understands the value of learning through teaching. She possesses the ease and maturity of someone who has had years of experience commanding audiences.”
The Selection Committee is privileged to present Rachel with a Scholarship this year.
